Lying inland from the coast following a steep winding road, this settlement was most likely of Scandinavian origin from the 9th century, and is today a bustling village scattered with quaint cottages and several amenities. Pick up some fresh loaves from the little bakery Barnard's or stock up on some essentials from the local shop, Thorpe Stores. The Fylingdales Inn offers a welcoming place to sip a pint after a busy day of walking the North Yorkshire coast, while a wider selection of pubs and bars can be found in the neighbouring village of Robin Hood's Bay, with some even providing a picturesque sea view.
