Additionally close are the nine Meres of Ellesmere, which were formed during the glacial period and today offer magnificent boat rides, sailing, fishing, and bird watching possibilities to the numerous tourists that travel from near and far. In addition to having a wide range of beautiful structures, such as the St. Mary's Church from the time of the Norman Conquest, Ellesmere also has a great assortment of stores, no less than nine pubs, and an annual beer festival, making it a great place to visit year-round.
