Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the farmhouse where author Beatrix Potter wrote many of her books and now a museum owned by the National Trust. Far Sawrey is close to the ferry point on Windermere and has good walks nearby, including Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest.
