With the right vision and investment, this property can become a stunning family home in one of Cork’s most sought-after coastal locations. Monkstown is a charming village located just outside Cork city in Ireland, situated along the southern coast about 10 kilometres from the city centre, and is known for its picturesque surroundings, combining natural beauty with a peaceful village atmosphere. The area is notable for its proximity to Cork Harbour, one of the largest natural harbours in the world, which offers stunning views and opportunities for outdoor activities like walking, sailing, and birdwatching. Monkstown is home to a mix of traditional and modern houses, and its quaint streets feature local cafés and pubs, contributing to its welcoming, community-focused vibe. The village is also known for its tennis club, sailing club and Monkstown golf club a popular course with scenic views over the harbour. With its easy access to Cork city, it provides a quieter, more suburban setting while still being close to urban amenities. It’s a great spot for those who enjoy coastal life and the outdoors while remaining connected to the city. History of the house: This property was once the home of the late Denny Lane, a Cork poet, businessman and Young Irelander, who composed the famous song ‘Carrigdhoun’. There is a Mass Rock not very far from the house, close to the ‘Cut and Cover’ where mass was offered during the Penal Days. At the back of the house is a spring well, where many of the villagers used to get their water when the local supply failed. The grounds of this house ran uphill behind the church and Denny Lane had his own pathway to the church, known as ‘The Priest’s Steps’. The house probably gave its name to the hill which is still known as Fairy Hill. The original name of the hill was Darling Hill. Henry Warren occupied the house during the 1840s and Dr. Henry O’Brien lived there during the 1850’s.The present owners have resided here since 1962. Viewing is a must to fully appreciate.
