Description
DNG GLEN CORCORAN are delighted to offer for sale, Sharavogue Gate Lodge, a beautifully maintained cottage located in a peaceful, rural setting, c. 8km from the Georgian Heritage Town of Birr. Restoration works were undertaken c. 1999 and included damp proofing, rewiring, replumbing, wide plank oak and natural slate flooring etc, while retaining much of the original character and features. Internally, the lodge offers c. 49 sq.m/527 sq.ft of accommodation including Living Room, Kitchen, 2 Bedrooms & Bathroom. Externally, the property sits on beautiful gardens of c. 0.50 acres, with the front boundary being made up of in part wrought iron railings set on limestone copings. There is an orchard located to the rear of the property which includes heritage apple tree varieties and plum trees. Elsewhere, the gardens have a number of fruit bushes and native beech trees, oak trees & chestnut trees. The property also has the benefit of a sandstone patio to the rear and a metal garden shed. The Lodge was built circa 1830, as the rear Gate Lodge to Sharavogue House and Demense (constructed in 1820s); seat of John Craven Westenra who was MP for Kings County from 1835 to 1852. Westenra was the 3rd son of the Earl of Rossmore (County Monaghan) and his mother was Mary Ann Walsh of Walsh Park, near Riverstown, Co Tipperary. In the 19th century the Sharavogue Estate held nearly 7,000 acres and had lands at Sharavogue and Clareen. The house and lands were sold by then owner, Earl of Huntingdon, to the Land Commission in the 1920s. Sharavogue House was left to ruin over many years and largely demolished by the 1970s. Viewing of this exceptional property comes highly recommended through DNG GLEN CORCORAN
