HISTORY The original cottage that was built on this site dates to the 18th century. The base of this cottage can still be seen in the front garden around the box hedging. The current house that stands was built in 1910. Around this time the Doyle's married into the Mc Donnell family and they lived in the house until the early 1960s. Most of the Mc Donnell family that lived in the house, emigrated to Chicago in the mid-50s. The property at that time was much bigger and part of a working farm up till the mid-50s. The fields in front of the house and around it was part of that farm. The house was extended to in the 1940s and some further works were done at the back of the house in the early 1960s when the current owners grandmother took over the house. She ran a tearoom and a small shop at the cottage from the early 60s until 1983 The tea rooms then closed. One of her children lived in the property until they passed away recently. Muhmad Ali stayed in the house in 1972. He was staying in the Kilternan hotel at the time, while he was here for a demo match in Dublin, when his car with his entourage broke down across the road. The lady of the house asked them in and they stayed the evening playing poker. While the tea rooms were open the cottage was also a B & B and had a few famous people stay in house in the 60s and 70s which can be seen in the guest book that is still in the property. While the cottage never formally had a name, it was always called after the family's name who was living there. Mc Donnell's cottage, Palmer's Cottage. But since the passing of the family living in the property the vendors have chosen to call it Primrose Cottage because the vendors late mother loved her garden and always had the Primroses out in early spring. We have continued that tradition and planted them out around the cottage this year and indeed have the name Primrose Cottage above the main door in Irish.
