Description

Description: Located on the main Louisburgh to Westport Road (R335) and Wild Atlantic Way, this family home which once served as a very successful bed & breakfast offers spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean and Clew Bay Islands. The property comprises a detached residence dating back 120 years of stone construction, which has been altered over the years. A good-sized sitting room is located on the left as you enter, while a cosy dining area is located to the left, both situate at the front of the property and looking out over the sea. The kitchen is located to the rear where you will also find the utility room, newly refurbished shower room and a bedroom. There are two further bedrooms located at ground floor, while a large storage space with WC is located at first floor. The property was extended in c.1989 with the addition of a further 4 bedrooms. This was accessible from the main property but has been blocked off in recent years to create a separate self-contained unit comprising, kitchen/dining/living, 2 bedrooms (both ensuite) and a study. This unit can easily be reopened to create one home or could be let separately as there is a separate external access (subject to planning permission). There is off street parking available to the front of the property with a pedestrian gated access to the front door. A vehicular access leads to the rear, where more parking is available, and a detached storage shed. The garden is planted with mature hedging and trees and creates privacy from the road but does not hinder the exceptional views. Given the property’s convenient location, various school options are available, with Primary and Secondary schools available in Westport and Louisburgh, Lecanvey National School just 1.4km away. The pier/beach at Lecanvey is in easy reach – 2km distant. Location: Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, this area is famous for its wide range of unspoilt beaches; famed for their clean bathing waters and untainted sandy coves. The beaches of Cross and Carrowniskey are renowned destinations for water-sports; these include surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and angling. Carrowniskey is a lifeguarded beach, where surfing instruction is available. The beaches of Thallabawn (White Strand) and Silver Strand, which are rated best in Europe and are beautiful for swimming and sunbathing. Beaches in the Louisburg area include Carrowmore, Old Head and Bertra, all lifeguarded beaches; these are popular for swimming and water-sports. If your passion is walking, climbing or just generally “rambling”, then this is the destination for you. Croagh Patrick, Mweelrea and the Sheeffry Hills are in close proximity. There are numerous interesting walks and cycle routes to discover in the Louisburg and surrounding area, with magnificent scenery all around. Near-by, Roonagh Pier is the departure point for ferries to the beautiful Clare Island and Inishturk. These are very popular destinations for both day-trips and longer sojourns. The short drive south to Leenane and Connemara passes through the magnificently scenic Doolough valley, flanked by the majestic Mweelrea and the Sheefry Hills. Doolough is also the location for Delphi Adventure Centre. Leenane is located near the mouth of the famous Killary Fjord, a 14.5 km-long glacial inlet. South of Leenane is the unique landscape of Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey. Other scenic drives are north to Achill (via Westport and Newport); north-east to Ballycastle and the Ceide Fields (via Castlebar and Pontoon); east to Tourmakeady and Lough Nafooey (via Westport/Tourmakeady and Leenane)
